My friend Morgan and I were visiting Los Angeles for the week and we spent the last day of our trip driving up through the Hidden Hills and down through Malibu and then ending the day in Venice Beach. This photograph is taken on a pull-off on Kanan Road. The late morning light illuminated the layers and layers of sandy rock hills and mountains that led up to the coast. Morgan and I both got out of the car and kind of took a deep breath, as if we were looking at the book of Genesis right in front of us. It was like there was no wrong in that frame, in that view. Everything seemed perfect and peaceful and full of purpose.
